Tracking more heat ahead of storm chances Saturday

TONIGHT: After another hot and humid day, it's going to be another night of slow to cool temperatures. We expect mostly clear skies, with lows only falling to the upper 70s by sunrise Saturday.

TOMORROW: Shortly after sunrise, we'll likely be eyeing storms moving in from north of Kansas City. This will brush through our northern counties through midday, likely from late morning, to early afternoon. This complex of storms may have a limited severe component to it, of which our greatest risk is isolated wind damage. Ahead of this, folks along and north of I-70 will have a chance to reach upper 90s, and feels like temps in the 100-105 range. While these storms are expected to move west to east parallel to a cold front, the front will be moving from north to south at a slower pace through the day. Those south of the front will have a better chance at more extreme heat on Saturday. This will generally be places along and south of a line from Sedalia to Hermann. This is why we have extended our ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day coverage through Saturday night. We expect storms along this front as it slowly drops south; mostly south of I-70 in the afternoon and evening. These storms will also have a very limited severe potential, but an isolated strong storm is not out of the question.

EXTENDED: The long term forecast continues to carry heat, but we will get a break from the triple digits. It's beginning to look like upper level flow from the northwest keeps daily rain chances in the forecast, which may be enough to keep our highs in the 90s, rather than allowing them to return to the triple digits. The best chance for highs in the triple digits would be as we near the core of our upper level high (otherwise known as the heat dome), but for now, the forecast is for upper 90s.
