Driver not hurt after crash with utility pole in Jefferson City

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Traffic in Jefferson City was diverted Monday afternoon after two separate crashes with utility poles.

According to a press release from the Jefferson City Police Department, officers were called to the 5500 block of Highway 50/63 at the Moreau River Bridge at 2:49 p.m. after a pickup truck hit a utility pole.

The power lines were laying on top of the car with the driver still inside but was not hurt, the release states.

Traffic for both lanes was diverted for around an hour, the release states.

Police said this is when they learned of another car had hit the downed power lines before the pickup truck. Both vehicles had damage from the power lines.

Ameren said the two wood utility poles broke due to the impact with the power lines.

The affected power lines were replaced overnight.

While traffic was being diverted, two additional crashes took place. One occurred on the westbound side with no injuries and another going eastbound with minor injuries.

The names of those involved with the crash were not released.
