Jefferson City woman charged after allegedly assaulting woman at ATM

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Jefferson City woman was arrested Thursday and charged after allegedly trying to assault a woman, stealing her credit and debit cards and then trying to drive off with her car.

Rebecca Matlack, 37, is charged with second-degree robbery, two counts of third-degree attempted assault of a special victim and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

She is being held at the Cole County Jail without bond. An arraignment is set for 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Cole County Circuit Court.

Jefferson City police officers were dispatched Thursday to the 400 block of Jefferson Street for the report of an assault and theft. A female victim told police that Matlack approached her while she was using the ATM, according to the probable cause statement.

Matlack allegedly asked for “help,” and the woman said, “no.” Matlack then allegedly pulled the woman’s hair, punched her in the mouth and ran towards the woman’s car. The woman’s child was still in the car when Matlack allegedly opened a door, according to the probable cause statement.

The woman got in between Matlack and the car and Matlack eventually ran away, according to the probable cause statement. The woman eventually noticed her debit and credit cards were stolen.

The child was crying when police arrived after seeing her mother attacked and Matlack opening the door, according to the probable cause statement.

Two Jefferson City police officers found Matlack and she allegedly kicked both of them.
