Columbia man arrested, charged after allegedly exposing himself outside of Shakespeare’s

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia man was arrested Friday after police say he exposed himself in front of child outside of Shakespeare’s Pizza in Downtown Columbia and caused damage to a truck.

Deandra Buchanan Jr., 28, is charged with sexual misconduct involving a child, first-degree sexual misconduct, first-degree property damage and two counts of fourth-degree assault.

He is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond. An initial court appearance was held Monday afternoon.

Columbia police were dispatched Friday and made contact with Buchanan. An alleged victim was interviewed by police and stated they were sitting on the outdoor patio of Shakespeare’s Downtown location with a child, according to the probable cause statement.

The victim told police Buchanan went into the middle of the street and exposed himself for an extended period, while facing the patrons, the statement says.  

Another victim told police that Buchanan climbed on his truck and stomped on it, causing about $4,000 worth of damage, according to the probable cause statement. After the victim removed Buchanan from the vehicle, Buchanan allegedly spit on him.

When a police officer was informing Buchanan of the allegations, he was also spit on, according to the statement.

Buchanan also has charges in another case for first-degree trespassing and causing damage to a jail. Charges were filed on June 23, he was released under his own recognizance. A warrant was filed in that case Monday for failure to abide a court’s order.
