Tracking weekend rain chances

TONIGHT: Skies have been blanketed with some high and thin clouds, giving today's sky a milky look. We'll lose some of this cloud cover overnight by sunrise. Temperatures fall into the mid-60s to start Friday.

TOMORROW: Friday brings back rain chances. Our upper level jet will bring better winds and a disturbance into the region, possibly by midday. This will have been driving strong storms through Kansas, but similar to how things played out a few days ago, activity will weaken as it arrives. We may see showers as soon as late morning near HWY 65, with some high clouds will likely be filling in the hours before. As the disturbance moves eastward, we'll have chances for storms to develop in the afternoon, but this chance is generally focused east of HWY 63. Overall, expect a lot of dry time on Friday, with spotty chances for rainfall.

EXTENDED: Chances for scattered showers and storms fill into the forecast behind the wave through the evening and overnight hours. This presents better rain chances, but still may not be a washout. Atmospheric moisture remains in place over most of the region, as a boundary sits just to our north. Upper level disturbances will pass overhead, generating scattered rain chances in waves, so off and on rain chances are forecast through Saturday, beginning to dwindle on Sunday, as the boundary pushes south, taking our moisture with it. Still, the real "washout" looks to miss us south, with better chances for heavy rain and strong storms focusing in on southern Missouri and north central Arkansas. Still, up to an inch is possible over the weekend in some communities near the Lake of the Ozarks to I-44. Drier conditions move in for the beginning of next week, with better rain chances back by midweek.
