Tracking Wednesday’s rain chances, and a cool down ahead

TONIGHT: Warm and mostly dry is how the vast majority of communities will end their 4th of July festivities, but an some isolated storms will bring rain to some in the southeast. Chances for rain are best along and south of a line from Camdenton to Montgomery City.

TOMORROW: Early Wednesday, a cold front driving a complex of storms is expected to arrive on our western doorstep. This may bring an isolated strong storm with it, but it will likely be weakening as it arrives. Scattered showers and storms will be possible through the morning, but some may miss out depending on how fast activity weakens. More redevelopment will occur ahead of the front Wednesday afternoon, but where this happens depends on the progress of the front. Currently, the best chance of redevelopment lies east of Columbia and Jefferson City, even more so closer to St. Louis. If we see storms develop in the afternoon, they may become strong to severe, with hail and damaging wind the main threat. The overall risk of severe storms is low, thanks to concerns with the timing of the front and a marginal environment for storms to maintain strength. An ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day is not being issued at this time.

EXTENDED: Behind Wednesday's front, showers may linger into Thursday morning. Thursday's airmass is cooler and drier, with highs expected to only reach low 80s. Friday is cooler as well, with a chance for rain returning Friday night, and lasting through Saturday morning. We'll feel temperatures start to climb again on Sunday and Monday, putting highs in the upper 80s. Chances for rain will linger into Sunday, before drier weather returns early next week.
