Jefferson City man sentenced for bombing ex-wife’s car

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Jefferson City man was sentenced on Wednesday to 60 months in prison for setting off an explosive device that destroyed his ex-wife's vehicle.

Dean McBaine, 31, was sentenced in the US District Court in St. Louis. A jury convicted him on one count of possessing an unregistered destructive device in October. US District Judge Audrey Fleissing ordered McBaine to pay $34,705 in restitution.

Court documents say McBaine's ex-wife brought the child they share to St. Louis following a shooting at his Jefferson City home in 2018. McBaine shot several rounds into his child's room during an argument with his current wife. McBaine's former spouse filed orders of protection for herself and her child.

McBaine and another man set off a "sprarkler-bomb" underneath the ex-wife's car. Court documents say three weeks after the child was taken to St. Louis McBaine and Michael Bushman put the explosive under his ex-wife's car, a red Mini Cooper. Authorities said the explosion destroyed the vehicle and damaged two adjacent homes.

Investigators say the men were seen on security camera footage. Bushman was sentenced to 13 months in prison back in November.
