Victim hospitalized in Callaway County shooting; suspect remains on the run

AUXVASSE, Mo. (KMIZ)

One person was hospitalized after a shooting Sunday in Callaway County and the 33-year-old suspect was still not in custody Monday afternoon.

The Callaway County Sheriff's Office has reported the suspect, Damin Davis, fled from the scene with his 10-year-old son in a black car after the shooting early Sunday afternoon. His son was later found safe while the car was found abandoned in the Stephens area around 4:45 p.m. Sunday.

The victim was hospitalized after the shooting but the injury was not life-threatening, Lt. Jeff Harding with the Callaway County Sheriff's Office said. Harding did not know what the victim's condition was Monday.

Davis's criminal history dates back to 2006 when he was charged with tampering with a motor vehicle in Boone County. He was later sentenced to probation in 2007, which was revoked in 2009.

Since 2009, Davis has been charged with domestic assault 4 times, including as recently as May.

Online court records show that he was on probation at the time of the shooting on Sunday. According to court documents, Davis assaulted a woman and attempted to smother her with a pillow.

The sheriff's office told ABC 17 on Monday that an active search for Davis is over as they think he has left the county.

However, they will be following up on any new information as they believe Davis has ties to neighboring counties.

Davis is believed to be traveling on foot and deputies are warning he is considered armed and dangerous.
