Como Community Bail Fund parts ways with Race Matters Friends

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Como Community Bail fund announced on Facebook it is splitting ways with its former partner, Race Matters, Friends.

On Friday, Como Community Bail Fund, formerly Race Matters Friends Community Bail Fund, posted a statement on Facebook sharing that it was told by the Race Matters, Friends executive board to “suspend operation as the RMF Community Bail Fund.”

The Facebook post states the separation stems from “a difference in philosophy, including the boards desire to work with the county prosecutor."

The Race Matters, Friends website still has a tab to donate to the community bail fund, and on the contact page, Race Matters, Friends says the bail fund is on pause for annual examination and evaluation.

When you call the Como Community Bail fund, you are met with the following message:

"Hi, this is the Community Bail Fund. We are currently unable to bail people out because of some administrative difficulties. We have no idea if we will be able to resume, but for now, I'm sorry we cannot help. And I'm sorry that you are stuck in jail. We will be thinking of you. Bye-bye."

Como Community Bail Fund said its team will continue to be active advocates for the end of the case bail system.

Race Matters, Friends said in an email to ABC 17 it cannot speak for what others apart from RMF are doing or their objectives but that it is committed to its original goal of ending the cash bail system and ensuring wealth has no role in the decision of justice.
