Jordan Montgomery shuts down his his former team is Cardinals series win against the Yankees
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMIZ)
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jordan Montgomery beat the Yankees for the second time since they traded him last summer, leading the Red Birds to a 5-1 win on Sunday to take the series 2-1.
Montgomery allowed an unearned run, two hits and three walks in nearly seven innings pitched, not to mention keeping New York hitless until the sixth. Giovanny Gallegos and Jordan Hicks also spent time in the circle, both not allowing a run to score.
With the Cardinals ahead 2-1, Brendan Donovan hit a two-run homer in the seventh to put it away. Jordan Walker and Andrew Knizner both brought in one run each.
St. Louis sits at 35-48 on the year, which is 9.5 games out of first place in the NL central division.
Up next - the Cardinals will hit the road to head to Miami for a four-game series with the Marlins. Game one will kick off Monday at 5:40 p.m.
