LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. (KMIZ)
The annual boat race at the Lake of the Ozarks occurred Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event attracted large crowds, prompting law enforcement to take steps to ensure safety. The Lake Ozark fire department, Osage Beach fire department and the Camden County sheriffs office joined forces to monitor the area.
Lake Ozark fire department chief, Marc Carr said as of Saturday evening, there were no major injuries or accidents to report.
"The event went off without a hitch," Carr said. "Thankfully because of all of our public safety partners from the surrounding areas that pitched in."
With temperatures that reached nearly 90 degrees, Carr said his department was also responsible for any heat related injuries that could have occurred.
"So we were responsible for all the fire, rescue and ems aspect of the event, and then worked in unified command with law enforcement for the perimeter security and all of that," Carr said.
Multiple Camden County deputies were seen in patrolling the area in both golf carts and sheriff cars. Deputies also stood throughout several entrances maintaining the flow of traffic. Carr said this was done in order to keep at least one lane of the road open.
"We were trying to leave at least one lane open so if we have any medical emergencies on the point or for any of those residents we could still get emergency apparatus down," Carr said.
The event is hosted by the Camden on the lake resort each year, and consists of a three-days long schedule, ending with an awards ceremony.
As of Saturday night, there were no major boating accidents or drownings. There were also no major car crashes.
