Columbia city manager to deliver State of the City address

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

On Wednesday, Columbia City Manager De'Carlon Seewood will deliver the annual State of the City address.

Recruiting and retaining employees is a top priority Seewood has highlighted in the past. At the last State of the City address, Seewood mentioned the need to fill vacancies in many city branches, especially within the police department.   

Seewood also highlighted his goal to fill open positions in the I.T. and Public Works departments, as well as other leadership openings.

Another topic the city manager brought up last year, was the need to address staff and pay. Seewood said he wanted to give employees at least a 4% increase in the next fiscal year to help keep up with higher expenses for workers. 

The city manager also spoke about proposals for more social service funding to help address hunger and homelessness. The latter has been frequently discussed by the council in the last year.

Wednesday's meeting is set to begin at noon at City Hall in the Council Chambers meeting room.
