Tracking summer heat and storms the next 7 days

TODAY: Wednesday will start mostly dry, but we're watching some activity near Kansas City that may spill into our western counties by late morning. This will be decaying shower and thunderstorm activity that will ultimately die out before showers and storms pop up again this afternoon. Rainfall will again be spotty through the afternoon and evening, bringing only isolated moderate to heavy rainfall, but also a lightning threat to areas nearby. Overall, it's another great pool day for most, with a high in the upper 80s, but be aware of what's on radar, and be able to find shelter quickly in case of lightning.

TONIGHT: As with yesterday's activity, storms will die with sunset, and we'll be mostly clear at sunrise Thursday. Temperatures drop into the mid-60s.

EXTENDED: Thursday afternoon is very similar, with isolated thunderstorms developing into the afternoon, with highs near 90 degrees. It's important to remember with every day this week, chances for rain will be limited, and there will remain plenty of dry time. At the same time, anything that develops will pose a lightning risk, so keep that in mind, and be aware of what is nearby. We will have temperatures near 90, and daily afternoon storm chances each day through Tuesday of next week. The best chance for rain thanks to slightly better moisture and instability comes Friday afternoon, but even then, storms will be spotty, and yield plenty of dry time in-between. Humidity will also be present, before dropping slightly into the weekend. Still, warm weather sticks around well into next week.
