Tracking a stagnant pattern with daily chances for afternoon storms and summer heat

TODAY: Today marks the beginning of daily chances for afternoon thunderstorms. It won't be much, but just enough ingredients come together this afternoon to promote a limited chance for an isolated thunderstorm or two this afternoon. Our best chances for storms will stay west of Mexico, Kingdom City, and Vienna. To the east, folks will have little to no chance of storms. Still, even in the west, plan for another hot and mostly dry day today, with highs likely reaching upper 80s under partly cloudy skies. Winds throughout the day will be light, from the south and southwest.

TONIGHT: Winds will be variable this evening with thunderstorm development, but overall southerly flow will resume as any activity dies with sunset tonight. Skies will mostly clear overnight, and we'll start early Wednesday with temperatures in the 60s.

EXTENDED: Day by day, not much changes, other than chances for isolated storms including all of the the region. Still, activity is very sparsely populated, and there's a lot of dry time in the forecast. Temperatures climb a degree or so each day, putting us in the low 90s by Thursday, which will hold through the weekend. Also continuing into the weekend is our pattern of mostly dry days, with just enough moisture for daily afternoon thunderstorms. No severe weather is expected, but locally heavy rain and lightning will occur at times, usually after 3 p.m. each day. Coverage will likely be spotty, so many will miss out on storms completely. Still, be aware of lightning that can travel up to 10-20 miles from the center of a thunderstorm. Over all, less than a half inch of rain is forecast for the next 7 days.
