Eighth inning spark secures Auburn’s series sweep over Mizzou

AUBURN, Al. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou baseball team finished the regular season with a tough series at Auburn falling all three games, including 9-7 in the series finale on Saturday after a late eighth inning spark from the home team.

MU held a 7-4 lead going into the bottom of the eighth, but a five run inning from Auburn put the game out of reach.

Ty Wilsmeyer led Mizzou at the plate going 2-for-3 with three RBI's, plus Trevor Austin drove in two runs on the day and Dalton Bargo went 2-for-3.

Freshman Logan Lunceford started the day on the hill for MU giving up three runs in his two innings pitched and after that six different Tigers spent time in the circle. In the eighth inning, Kyle Potthoff allowed two runs and Jacob Hasty allowed three more.

Mizzou ends the regular season with a 30-23 record, including 10-19 in the SEC. Despite the sweep, the Tigers will be making their first appearance since 2019 in Hoover for the SEC tournament. MU comes in as the 12th seed and will once again be matched up with Auburn for round one on Tuesday.
