MoDOT updates the public on the Rocheport Bridge project
ROCHEPORT, Mo. (KMIZ)
MoDOT along with its consultant The Lunda Team and the Rocheport Bridge Design-Build Team invited the public to the Katy Trail Saturday morning to give an update on the project’s progress and what is coming up next.
The meeting took place at the Katy Trail Bridge at 9 a.m. The meeting is a part of MoDOT's Saturday Superintendent Talks that will take place every third Saturday of each month until the Rocheport Bridge Project is complete.
Andrew Bertels, Construction Inspector for the Rocheprort Bridge Project says to move forward with the bridge they have to do two more pours of bridge deck.
In addition, Bertels says they still have asphalt paving taking place at the east and west end and in the median of the new Rocheport Bridge.
MoDOT says their crews are also building crossovers for the new bridge that will lead them into making a traffic switch over to the new bridge in mid-June starting with the westbound traffic first, allowing them to later demolish the old bridge.
Also in June, Bertels says MoDOT will demolish the Route BB Interchange the weekend of June 9. for it to later be replaced. Bertels says while the demolition is taking place drivers can expect road closures in the area for the entire weekend.
So far, MoDOT and its team have been working on the Rocheport Bridge for over a year and it is expected to be completed in December 2024.
Since April, MoDOT has had nightly lane closures to I-70 from 7 p.m. - 6 a.m. to do work on the bridge and those closures are set to stop at the end of May. However, MoDOT says until closures end travelers should use caution in the area.
MoDOT is set to hold two more Saturday Superintendent Talks on June 17. at the Katy Trail and July 15. at the A-Frame.
