SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — A 31-year-old man who was charged with running over a Springfield police officer will be committed to state mental health facilities after a judge accepted his plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. Jon Routh, who entered the plea Tuesday, was facing two felony charges after running over Officer Mark Priebe outside Springfield police headquarters in 2020. Priebe was paralyzed. Court records say all parties agreed to the insanity plea, and Routh will be committed to the custody of the Department of Mental Health. Investigators say Routh struck Priebe on June 9, 2020. Another officer then shot Routh.
