Jefferson City Council to meet Monday, set to discuss Downtown parking

According to the Jefferson City Council agenda, the council is set to discuss a bill that would amend provisions of Chapter 22 of the City Code to change enforcement of parking regulation in areas from enforcing time limits on a zone-by zone or block-by-block basis.

The amendment would also remove the current prohibition on parking within the same parking zone more than once in a calendar day and specifies that time limit not being enforced on Saturdays.

The bill also provides restrictions on City staff in operation of parking regulation enforcement.

The origin of the bill comes from the Public Works and Planning Committee and is being sponsored by Ward 3 Councilman Scott Spencer. According to a section within the agenda, this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after the date of its passage and approval.

The council approved a moratorium on the enforcement of unmetered parking zones in the Downtown area until June 5 at its last meeting.

Talks began around Downtown parking after a bill was filed in the Missouri Senate that is attempting to ban parking fees within a mile of the Capitol, except when enforced by a licensed peace officer.
