Mizzou secures the series win against Georgia in walk-off fashion on senior day

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou baseball team beat Georgia in walk-off fashion in Saturday's offensive shootout, 14-12. With the win, the Tigers have officially secured the series win against the Bulldogs.

The designated hitter, Dylan Leach, played hero at Taylor Stadium. With a tie game and one runner on board in the bottom of the ninth, he hit a home run to capture the win. The homer marked Leach's third walk-off hit of the year.

The victory over Georgia marks MU's second-straight SEC series win.

The Bulldogs got out to a three-run lead in the early innings, however, the MU offense got going to gain a 4-3 lead in the fourth inning. From there, the two teams traded punches and changed leads.

Luke Mann tied for the team-high three RBI, along with Matt Garcia, in the win. Mann hit a home run in the fifth inning, which puts him one homer away from tying the program's all-time career home run record. It is also the sixth straight game that the St. Louis native has knocked one over the fence.

Ross Lovich, Helias alum Trevor Austin and and Hank Zeisler also all plated runs on Saturday.

Head coach Steve Bieser and company went through five pitchers in game two against the Bulldogs. Javyn Pimental got the start on the hill, but was pulled after a little more than three innings. He gave up six earned runs on five hits.

Rorick Maltrud, Nic Smith, Zach Franklin and Austin Troesser all pitched in relief. Troesser ended up earning the win, as he tossed for two innings with just one run allowed on one hit. He also added on five strikeouts.

Before the game, the Tigers honored their 10 graduating seniors: Hickman alum Cam Chick, Zach Franklin, Matt Garcia, Jacob Hasty, Dylan Leach, Rorick Maltrud, Kyle Potthoff, Ty Wilmsmeyer and Hank Zeisler. The team also honored senior day honorees Luke Mann and Battle alum Tre Morris.

Up next - Mizzou will play for the series sweep against Georgia on Sunday at 12 p.m. at Taylor Stadium.
