Honnold, Laird earn All-SEC postseason honors
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Southeastern Conferenced named both Mizzou shortstop Jenna Laird and outfielder Alex Honnold to the All-SEC Second Team on Friday.
The Tigers claimed two of the 21 total spots given on the All-SEC Second Team.
It is the first time that Honnold has earned an SEC postseason honor. However, for Laird, it is her sixth conference postseason honor at Mizzou, marking the shortstop's second-straight year on All-SEC Second Team.
Honnold had a standout junior season for the Tigers. She ranked 10th in conference play with a .443 on-base percentage, fifth in the league for batting average, third for walks, fifth for triples, seventh for hits, ninth for RBIs and ninth for home runs. The Iowa-naive hit .290 in SEC games through 2023 with four home runs, two doubles, 14 runs and 10 RBI to go with a .493 slugging percentage. That slugging percentage ranks second all-time in program history.
Laird paced Mizzou in SEC play in her junior season. She batted .291 with 14 runs , three doubles, five RBI and a .371 on-base percentage. MU's leadoff hitter also found herself among some of the top names in the SEC. She ranked third for total plate appearances, fifth for steals and fifth for at-bats during conference action.
Honnold, Laird and the Tigers will now await their postseason fate, after falling out in the first round of the SEC Tournament to No. 5-seeded Alabama on Wednesday. The NCAA Selection Show is on Sunday at 6 p.m. on ESPN2. 64 teams will be selected to compete across 16 regionals.
