COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

There is a large police presence near a church in in the 1800 block of Towne Drive as law enforcement investigates a burglary alarm Thursday afternoon.

A Columbia police lieutenant told ABC 17 News that an argument led to one round being fired from a gun at a church.

"They learned that an employee was inside of the business (church) and someone was trespassing inside, there was some type of confrontation that happened and one round was fired," Lt. Lance Bolinger said.

The burglary alarm was set off. No injuries have been reported so far, but police are still trying to learn if anyone was hit by the bullet.

The suspect has not been detained, but police claim there is no active threat to the community.

An ABC 17 News reporter saw at least 12 officers in the area. Police began arriving shortly after 4:30 p.m. and left before 5:50 p.m.
