COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia Ward 2 City Councilwoman Andrea Waner announced on social media on Wednesday that she will not seek reelection due to a medical issue.

Waner's term ends in April 2024. She plans to finish her term on the council.

Waner said on social media that a 14 millimeter mass was found during an optometry exam.

"It’s on the large to very large size. And while radiation is still an option, it would have to go through my optic nerve, and there’s a large likelihood I would get glaucoma and cataracts and lose the majority of my vision," she wrote. "So, instead of waiting to deal with the side effects of radiation, and the anxiety of waiting for the next bad thing to happen, I’m getting my eye enucleated (removed)."
