CPD reschedules community meetings originally set for this week

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Police Department announced in a Monday press release that it will reschedule the pair of community meetings it had set for this week.

The meetings in CPD’s north and south districts were originally slated for Wednesday and Thursday. The new dates were not announced, but the press release stated they will occur next month.

The press release stated the dates were changed because the North District meeting conflicts with the Citizens Police Review Board meeting on Wednesday.

"This was an unintentional oversight, and the Department appreciates citizens’ patience," Police Chief Geoff Jones said in the release. "This conflicting schedule could prevent residents who wish to attend both meetings from being able to do so."

The rescheduling announcement occurs after a video was circulated on social media over the weekend of a Columbia police officer punching a man outside of a Downtown bar while another officer allegedly tried to hold the man down. The incident is being investigated by the Columbia Police Department and Boone County Sheriff's Office.
