Tracking rounds of storms, possible severe weather tonight into tomorrow

TONIGHT: Warm and humid with storms moving in from the north after midnight. Some storms could bring strong to damaging winds, especially north of I-70. Showers and storms continue into Monday morning. Lows in the mid-60s.

TOMORROW: Morning storms diminishing, becoming warm and humid with highs in the lower 80s. Another round of storms could develop by late afternoon, becoming severe south of Highway 50 with large hail and damaging winds.

EXTENDED: Two rounds of strong to severe storms are possible in the next 24 hours as hot and humid conditions have set up across the region. Storms are expected to fire up along a stalled front to our north overnight across southern Iowa and northern Missouri, diving south into areas north of I-70 after midnight. These storms will have the potential for heavy rain and strong winds through daybreak, but will lose strength as they get south of Highway 24. Storms should dissipate by mid-morning, allowing the atmosphere to recharge during the day as highs get back into the lower 80s. Another round of isolated to scattered strong to severe storms is possible south of the Missouri River by late afternoon, bringing the threat of large hail and damaging winds through about 9:00 p.m. A Weather Alert Day will be in effect for both rounds of strong storms. For the rest of the week, temperatures are expected to remain above average, with highs approaching 80 or above each day. The frontal boundary will be a focus for storm development each afternoon, but there will be many locations that end up dry as well.
