Mizzou baseball scores nine unanswered to down Ole Miss

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou baseball team had a slow start to the series against Ole Miss, but with nine unanswered runs, the Tigers managed to make the 11-9 comeback victory happen.

MU trailed 9-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, but six straight runs brought them within one. In the seventh, Luke Mann tied the game up with a solo home run, plus Matt Garcia managed to rip a game winning two-run shot in the eighth to escape the game with a win.

Battle alum Tre Morris and Dalton Bargo both had the team-high three RBI's each, plus Mann and Garcia each had two. As a team, the group totaled five home runs in the series opener.

On the hill, Nic Smith, Rorik Maltrud and Austin Troesser combined for three scoreless innings to secure the victory. Troesser didn't allow an Ole Miss hit in the final two innings of play.

Mizzou is 26-19 on the season and 6-16 in SEC play. Game two will continue Friday at 6 p.m.
