Big first inning powers Mizzou to midweek win over SIUE

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou softball team scored seven first-inning runs Tuesday to take down SIUE 8-1 and secure a perfect midweek record for the season.

The Tigers' quick start was led by Alex Honnold going 2-for-3 with four RBI's, including a two-run home run marking her 12th of the season. Megan Moll also had a good day back in the batting order going 2-for-3 and plating three runs.

On the mound, freshman Cierra Harrison got the start throwing three total innings giving up one run on four hits, while recording three strikeouts. Megan Schumacher pitched the final four scoreless innings allowing just two hits and picking up six K's.

This marks a perfect 9-0 midweek record for the Tigers as they improve to 30-20 on the year.

Up next, the team will look to improve on their 4-14 SEC record with a three-game conference series as Texas A&M. Game one is set to start Friday at 5 p.m.
