Cardinals avoid series sweep against Diamondbacks with stellar hitting performance
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMIZ)
The St. Louis Cardinals avoided the a home series sweep with a big time hitting performance in the finale of the matchup to down the Diamondbacks 14-5.
Tommy Edman led the way at the plate going three-for-four with five total RBI's, including hitting his second home run of the season. Nolan Gorman also brought in four runs with a grand slam in the sixth inning.
The 13 hit, 14 run day marks the top number of runs that St. Louis has managed to put up all season.
On the mound, Jake Woodford got the start allowing seven hits and four runs in five innings pitched. Zack Thompson came in for an inning recording three strikeouts.
The Cardinals now sit at 8-11 on the season. Up next, the team will hit the road for a three-game series in Seattle. Game one against the Mariners will be Friday at 9:10 p.m.
