Tracking warmer temperatures, storm chances returning mid-week

TONIGHT: Clouds decrease gradually with chilly temperatures dropping into the upper 30s to around 40. Gusty winds continue from the northwest up to 35 mph.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and warmer with highs in the lower to mid-60s.

EXTENDED: Clouds clear out tonight as high pressure tries to work in for the start of the week. We can expect more sunshine and temperatures finally getting back into the 60s after a chilly end to the weekend. A weak disturbance could bring a few showers or rumbles of thunder as a warm front lifts north during the day, allowing temperatures to rise back into the 70s. Wednesday reaches near 80 degrees, but we'll have the chance of hit and miss showers and storms during the heat of the day. We'll be tracking a cold front that will move through sometime on Thursday, bringing a chance for rain and thunderstorms. The timing of the front will determine a threat for severe weather; an earlier arrival will limit the severe risk while a delayed arrival could bring strong storms toward late afternoon into the evening. Behind the front, temperatures begin to drop for the weekend, with highs in the 50s and lows potentially falling into the mid-30s. We'll need to monitor northern parts of Mid-Missouri for the potential of frost or freeze.
