Oregon trooper finds driver held at gunpoint; suspect dead

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Police say a man is dead after exchanging gunfire with an Oregon State Police trooper on Interstate 5 in Salem. The Salem Police Department said in a news release that police trooper Andrew Tuttle stopped to help the driver of a disabled semitrailer at about 8:45 a.m. Monday. Police say Tuttle saw the driver being held at gunpoint by a man identified as Felipe Amezcua Manzo. Police say he immediately began firing and the trooper fired back. Police say Amezcua Manzo then ran into tall grass along the interstate and was found with gunshot injuries. He died at the scene. Salem police are leading an investigation and the trooper is on leave.
