Mizzou’s four-run eighth isn’t enough to take down No. 4 Vanderbilt

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou baseball team put up four runs in the eighth inning against No. 4 Vanderbilt, but still managed to fall 7-6 in the series opener.

The Commodores scored first in the top of the first, but a Luke Mann leadoff homer quickly tied the game at one. Vandy held a 3-1 lead into the fifth until Mann drove in the second run of the day with an RBI double. After that, MU went up 7-2 before the

Tigers put up four runs in the eighth credit to a three-run home run from Ty Wilsmeyer. Dylan Leach tried to make something happen with two outs in the ninth by hitting a shot to left, but was thrown out while running to third.

Wilsmeyer finished the day 2-3 with three RBI's, Mann was 2-5 with two runs brought in and Hank Zeisler also drove in a run in the eighth.

On the mound, freshman Logan Lunceford came out hot in his first SEC start allowing three runs on just two hits through five innings, plus recording eight strikeouts.

The Tigers fall to 19-10 on the season and 3-7 in the SEC. This marks Vanderbilt's 13th straight win as they stay unbeaten in conference play.

The series continues Friday at Taylor Stadium at 6 p.m.
