Woman who sued Columbia for the behavior of a former city manager is scheduled for appeal hearingĀ

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

On Thursday, Colleen Spurlock, a former employee at the City of Columbia is scheduled to appear in court for an appeal hearing.

Spurlock sued Columbia in January of 2022, claiming former city manager John Glascock abused his power when disciplining his employees. A judge dismissed the lawsuit in June of 2022 saying Spurlock was unable to show any evidence of wrongdoing done by the former city manager.

Spurlock says she worked as a fellow in the city managers officer,  learning the ins and outs of government and helping with special projects and city council requests before being put on leave in July 2021. She claims Glascock told her she had the option to be fired or resign in that same month.

Glascock claimed Spurlock wasn't available to him and that she had questioned some of his decisions. However, Spurlock argued she felt she was being punished for trying to help the city as she worked on committees dedicated to work, culture, and council meetings.

Glascock released a later statement in August of 2021 saying that the city government hasn't been given anything specific to investigate claims he abused his power.

Spurlock agreed to resign from her position in July 2021.

The hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
