Bats come alive for Mizzou softball to avoid series sweep against No. 13 Alabama

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

After two scoreless games against No. 13 Alabama, the Mizzou softball bats came alive Sunday to avoid the series sweep. The Tigers managed to run-rule the Crimson Tide with a score of 11-3 in five innings.

Chantice Phillips was the star of Sunday's show going a perfect three-for-three with four total RBI's including a two-run homer to give the Tigers their first lead of the series in the third.

MU put up five runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-3 lead followed by two in the fourth and four in the fifth to end in. In the final inning, Alabama intentionally walked Jenna Laird and Alex Honnold to load the bases for Julia Crenshaw who managed an RBI single to end the game.

With the win, MU sits at 22-16 on the season and 2-10 in the SEC. This also marked the Tigers first home conference win of the year.

Up next - Mizzou hits the road for a three-game conference series at LSU. The matchup kicks off Thursday at 5 p.m.
