Man pleads after woman nearly thrown off Kansas bridge

KMIZ

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — A 38-year-old Lawrence man pleaded no contest to attempted second-degree murder after he tried to throw a woman off a bridge into the Kansas River. In exchange for his plea on Wednesday, three felony counts of criminal threat against Adam Blake Amyx Jr. were dismissed. A group of women were walking across the bridge in April 2022 when they encountered Amyx yelling and cursing. Prosecutors said when one of the women approached Amyx, he picked her up and tried to throw her into the river. She was able to escape and call police. Senior District Attorney David Greenwald said the woman likely would have died if Amyx had succeeded. He’ll be sentenced May 26.
