Former Mizzou hoops great Kim English becomes Providence head coach
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Former Mizzou basketball standout Kim English has finalized a six-year contract as the next Providence men's basketball head coach. English will be taking over for Ed Cooley as he heads to Georgetown.
The former Tiger spent the past two seasons as George Mason's head coach, going 14-16 in 2021-22 before improving to 20-13 overall this season. He got his coaching start as an assistant at Tusla and also spent time at Colorado and Tennessee.
During his time in Columbia, English helped lead MU to four NCAA tournament appearances. He was also a two-time All-Big 12 selection averaging over 11 points per game in his career. English was selected in the second round of the 2012 NBA draft by the Detroit Pistons.
In a releaser from the university, English said, "I am beyond excited to be named head men's basketball coach at Providence College."
"I want to thank Father Sicard and Steve Napolillo for this incredible opportunity.  I want to be clear to everyone in Friartown, we are going to do great things at Providence College for a long time," English said. "I know that this is a special place with amazing fans, a great tradition and support throughout the community.  We look forward to establishing new relationships with the players, the alums and the fans.  The work begins now!"
