Mizzou falls to Alabama in first ever SEC semifinal game

NASHVILLE, Tn. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou men's basketball team couldn't hang on against the top-seeded Alabama Crimson Tide, falling 72-61 in the program's first-ever SEC semifinal game.

"Overall we held our own. We did a great job, just slipped at the end with those defensive assignments," guard DeAndre Gholston said. "We're gonna watch film and get better."

You can watch the full locker room interview with Gholston, as well as guard Nick Honor and forward Kobe Brown, in the video players below.

Alabama had a rough shooting start going 0-10 from the three-point line and neither team knocked down a shot from beyond the arc until more than 10 minutes into play. As a team, the Crimson Tide shot 2-15 (13 percent) from downtown in the first half.

The Tigers trailed by as many as 10 points in the first, but a 13-5 run, which included a big time three from D'Moi Hodge, sent MU into the locker room down 31-29.

Mizzou quickly gained the lead in the second half with a 3-pointer from Hodge, but after that it was the Brandon Miller show. The SEC's Player of the Year went from just four first-half points to finishing the day with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

The Tigers were led by D'Moi Hodge finishing the game with 21 points and nine rebounds, following by 17 points from DeAndre Gholston.

With the loss, Mizzou falls to 24-9 on the season and 11-8 in SEC play.

Up next - the Tigers will get set for the NCAA Tournament. The tournament selection show is Sunday at 5 p.m.
