How to transition to Daylight Saving Time

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Daylight Saving Time will be starting at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday. Although, not everyone follows daylight saving in the U.S. people in Hawaii, most of Arizona, and U.S. territories in the Pacific and Caribbean don’t follow the time change.

For the ones that do like Missouri, remembering to set your clock a hour forward is just one thing to help with time transition.

Experts say another factor to focus on is your sleep planning. You'll want to try going to bed and waking up 15 minutes earlier than usual in these days leading up to daylight saving as those small adjustments to your sleeping schedule can help your body slowly adjust to the earlier start according to experts.

Red Cross also says, you'll want to do a little bit of house maintenance with your home smoke alarms.

The organization says to remember to test your smoke alarms. As you are doing testing, check the date of your smoke alarms and replace any that are 10 years or older.

The organization also says, to talk about fire safety to your family and practice your two-minute escape plan in case of a fire.

That plan should include at least two ways to get out of every room and a meeting spot at a safe distance away from your home.

Red cross says working smoke alarms can cut the risk of dying in a home fire by half.
