JACKSON, Mississippi (WAPT) — A husband and wife from Wisconsin are on a mission to spread awareness about living kidney donations and kidney health.

In 2020, Mark Scotch, who is an avid bike rider, met Hugh Smith at a Louisiana brewery and learned that Smith suffered from chronic kidney disease.

Scotch agreed to donate his kidney to Smith. Seven months after the transplant, Scotch started The Organ Trail.

He and his wife Lynn ride 1,500 miles from Lubbock, TX, to Baton Rouge, LA.

Sunday, Scotch made a stop in Jackson.

“You can donate a kidney and live a normal life. You don’t have to be restricted,” Scotch said.

In January, Lynn donated her kidney.

The National Kidney Registry says 3,000 new patients are added to the waiting list every month.
