BOSTON (WCVB) — A fire rekindled early Friday at a Stoneham home one day after firefighters rescued a man through a bedroom window during another fire.

Fire crews were called back to the Main Street home Friday morning for a two-alarm blaze. The fire was knocked down a short time later.

On Thursday morning, crews responded to the same home, and learned a man was trapped in a bedroom.

“We had a victim on the first floor in the back bedroom,” Stoneham Fire Capt. James Marshall said Thursday. “They had to break through a window. Brought a line in through the basement to fight the fire, then broke through a window and put a ladder up to the window to get into the first floor to effect the rescue of the gentleman. The gentleman was pulled out, put onto a stretcher, ambulance and taken to the hospital.”

The condition of the rescued man is unknown.

Marshall said it’s believed Thursday’s fire started in the basement.

The official causes and extent of the damage remains under investigation.
