Tracking a big cool down to end the week

TODAY: Thursday is a stark contrast to Wednesday. Where we were warm and rainy Wednesday, Thursday is dry as cold air sinks into the region. Expect mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies and a west northwest breeze around 15-20 mph. This will likely keep temperatures from climbing much at all today. Expect highs in the 30s.

TONIGHT: Winds turn more northerly, allowing temperatures to drop into the 20s and teens early Friday morning.

EXTENDED: Friday keeps the north breeze for much of the day. This and partly to mostly cloudy skies will keep temperatures cool yet again. Highs will struggle to climb out of the high 30s. Friday night, some light showers try to approach from the south, but very little precipitation is forecast. There is a possibility of a light wintry mix here, but accumulation is not expected. Saturday is much warmer, as winds turn more southerly. Temperatures will climb into the 50s by the afternoon, under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Saturday night into Sunday, we stay mild, ahead of a bigger warm push on Sunday. Temperatures climb into the 60s as a warm front passes through, bringing chances for showers. The associated trough and/or cold front with this system will bring a line of more widespread rain Sunday night into Monday morning when we may have a few thunderstorms embedded. This is our next big rainmaker in the foreseeable future. Behind this system, we stay mild to warm into early next week, with dry weather through Wednesday.
