Tracking strong storms with heavy rain and wind early Wednesday
TONIGHT: Increasing clouds with warming temperatures overnight. Morning temperatures reaching the upper 50s to around 60.
TOMORROW: Strong storms with heavy rain and potentially damaging winds through early afternoon. Highs reaching the mid-60s. Rain amounts between 1-1.5".
EXTENDED: A strong low pressure system is moving across the Plains tonight, bringing a warm front north across our area overnight into Wednesday. This will push temperatures into the low 60s by morning, and low level winds increase enough to provide strong wind shear to help strong storms form. A line of heavy rain and storms moves in between 7-9:00 a.m. along Highway 65 and race east throughout late morning into early afternoon. The main concerns with storms will be damaging winds up to 60 mph and heavy rain. The tornado threat is low, but not zero. Storms exit between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. to the east, if not earlier. Rain amounts will be in the 1" to 1.5" range. We'll be cooler on Thursday as temperatures only make the 40s. We'll fall into the upper teens to around 20 by Friday morning for a cool end to the week. A weak system moves in Friday night, bringing a brief rain/snow mix before sunrise on Saturday, but impacts are expected to be very minimal. Over the weekend, temperatures become more mild with highs in the 50s and another shot at rain between Saturday night and very early Sunday morning. We can expect widespread rain on Monday as temperatures reach the mid-50s.
