Two from Colorado arrested after report of a suspicious vehicle
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Columbia Police arrested two people from Colorado after a report of a suspicious vehicle on Sunday.
Stephen A. Goupil, 33, of Denver, Colorado and Erin A. Bradley, 27 of Ignacio, Colorado are now in custody facing local charges.
Columbia Police officers were called to the 2100 block of Sunborough Drive regarding the suspicious vehicle and two suspicious people around 10:20 a.m. on Sunday.
Officers arrived in the area and found the vehicle empty. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of La Plata County, Colorado.
CPD officers contacted the Durango, Colorado Police Department and learned Goupil and Bradley were associated with the stolen vehicle.
Officers searched the area and were given descriptions of the two suspects. A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper found Goupil near Broadway and Hwy ZZ, or Strawn Road. He was then taken into custody.
Goupil faces charges from Colorado of parole violation and kidnapping and local charges of tampering with a motor vehicle in the first degree, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Goupil was considered to be armed and dangerous.
Officers were then able to locate Bradley at a home in the 1300 block of South Mesa Drive.
Bradley was arrested on local charges for tampering with a motor vehicle in the second degree, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Columbia Police Department thanked the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Boone County Fire Protection District and University of Missouri Police Department in a press release.
Columbia Police Chief Geoff Jones also thanked the resident who saw reported the vehicle suspicious and called for law enforcement.
"If you see something, say something," Jones said. "Simply reporting this suspicious vehicle resulted in the arrest of a dangerous wanted felon who may have been planning additional crimes. The successful apprehension of these two suspects is the direct result of the police and community working together."
