Tracking a wintry mix Thursday with clearing leading into the weekend

TODAY: Rain this morning will become freezing rain for some as temperatures continue to fall into the morning hours. Freezing rain and sleet will be possible along and north of a line from Marshall to Paris. As the atmosphere cools through the morning, precipitation turns gradually to snow in these same areas, before light snow showers sweep across the area. Areas of concern for travel will be in communities like Marshall, Boonville, Moberly, Paris, Macon, and Brunswick. This is where we could see a light glaze of ice, especially on elevated surfaces, but on some untreated roads as well. Snow accumulations are less concerning, but we may have up to an inch in places like Macon or Brunswick, with lesser totals south. For more on this, checkout our latest Insider Blog.

TONIGHT: Snow moves out by 4-6 p.m., and skies work on clearing overnight. Temperatures fall into the 20s by early Friday morning, under clear skies and with a northwest breeze.

EXTENDED: Those clear skies will do some work to warm us near 40 despite a continued northerly breeze on Friday. Those winds are turning from the southwest Friday evening, and will guide us into the 50s on Saturday. Some clouds are overhead Saturday, and some moisture will try to bring some rain, but immense dry air closer to the ground has kept rain chances off the weekend for now. Overall, the weekend will still see plenty of sunshine with more of it expected on Sunday as south winds join to push temperatures back into the 60s. Next week starts warm with temperatures in the 50s on Monday and Tuesday, before rain chances creep in Tuesday and Wednesday.
