The Moniteau County Commission approved Bill Figgins to run the assessor's office after the previous assessor resigned.

Bill Figgins is serving as the interim Moniteau County Assessor after the previous assessor announced her resignation recently.

Figgins was appointed by commissioners on Friday morning. Figgins said he's worked as a field reviewer with the assessor's office for the last year.

Figgins said he's ready to get to work.

"This is a super busy time of year for the office," Figgins said. "We just sent out our personal property tax assessments for the year, so we're going to have thousands of those assessments coming back to the office soon."

Gov. Mike Parson will make the final decision in appointing a permanent replacement for the office. Political parties will send their candidates to Parson's office within the next two weeks. It's unclear how long it could take the governor to make a decision.

Figgins is taking over the office from the former county assessor Amber Trimble who announced her resignation on Dec. 26, 2019. Trimble stepped down amid two ongoing investigations by the state auditor's office and the Moniteau County Sheriff's Office. Her last day was Wednesday.
