Andy Reid Bowl: Chiefs and Eagles prepare for Super Bowl LVII
PHOENIX, Ariz. (KMIZ)
Super Bowl LVII will feature a match up between Kansas City and Philadelphia, both of which have been coached by Andy Reid, which is why this one is being pegged 'The Andy Reid Bowl.'
'Big Red,' as he's fondly known in Missouri, coached the Eagles for 14 years. In that time he racked up 140 wins, nine playoff appearances and six NFC East titles. However, he is now in his 10th season at the helm of Chiefs football and his team in the Midwest has been even more successful.
He already has his first Super Bowl win under his belt, as he got it done with Patrick Mahomes in 2019. Now, the only thing standing in the way of Reid's second ring is his former team. He never won a Super Bowl in Philadelphia.
To add another wrinkle to the drama, current Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni used to coach in Kansas City. He was the wide receivers coach until 2012, when Reid took over. Sirianni was eventually let go, as Big Red found a new staff.
It's the first meeting between Kansas City and Philadelphia in the playoffs. Reid has 21 playoff wins total and he'll look to make it 22, in the first meeting, on Sunday.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes said Reid made sure to set the game plan before they left Kansas City on Sunday. He said with all of the distractions that come with Super Bowl week, it's important not to change too much in the days leading up to the big game.
"I mean, obviously last week you want to have some of those extra off days. I mean, you get a couple early in the week, but at the same time you know when you get here now, you can focus on the details," he said.
