Glascock officially sworn in as Columbia city manager

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

John Glascock is now officially in charge of Columbia city government.

City Clerk Sheela Amin swore Glascock in as city manager on Thursday, the city said in a Facebook post. Glascock has been interim city manager since November 2018.

The city council hired him as permanent city manager in July, but required that he move inside the Columbia city limits by Jan. 1 in order to take the permanent job. Columbia's city charter requires the city manager to live in the city limits. City legal staff interpreted the provision to mean only permanent city managers must meet that requirement.

Glascock's contract will pay him $180,000 per year -- $15,000 more than his predecessor, Mike Matthes. The contract allows Glascock to collect three months worth of his salary if he resigns. Matthes’ contract let him take an entire year’s salary at retirement.

Glascock had previously been a deputy city manager and head of the city's Public Works Department.
