Notre Dame’s Brey says ‘we lost momentum,’ time is right
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Mike Brey says he started thinking the time was right to step down as Notre Dame men’s basketball coach in March on the plane ride home following the Irish’s NCAA Tournament run. He says he was certain by last week. Brey also says losses in seven of eight Atlantic Coast Conference games tells him that the program had lost momentum and that a new voice was needed to lead the Irish. He will step down at the end of the season after winning a school-record 481 games and leading the program for a school-record 23 years.
