Man United close to securing Weghorst after Ronaldo exit

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester United is closing in on the signing of Wout Weghorst to help fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure. The Netherlands international is set to join on loan from Burnley until the end of the season but he will not be eligible to play against Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday. Weghorst has been on loan at Turkish club Besiktas. He appears a surprising replacement for Ronaldo. The soccer great had his contract terminated in November after conducting an explosive interview with Piers Morgan in which he criticized manager Erik ten Hag and the club’s owners.
