Mizzou running back hits the transfer portal

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou running back Elijah Young announced that he will be entering the transfer portal on Tuesday afternoon after three seasons in Columbia.

The junior saw more game action earlier in the 2022 season, but Young faded more to the background as the season went on and Truman State transfer Cody Schrader became the go-to guy. Young finished the year with 93 yards rushing, 39 yards receiving and no touchdowns.

He played in nine games out of MU's 12 in the regular season in 2022. However, in 2021, he saw action in all 12 games, as head coach Eli Drinkwitz used him in tandem with running back Tyler Badie.

In a social media post, Young thanked Mizzou for the opportunity.

"I give sincere thanks to Coach Luper, training staff, and the coaching staff for helping me be the best version of me that I can be. Over the last couple years I went through many obstacles. As a result, I have realized these hardship only made me stronger as a young man," he said.
