TAMPA, Fla. (KMIZ)
The Mizzou football team sealed a losing record for the 2022 season with a 27-17 loss to Wake Forest in the Gasparilla Bowl on Friday night. The Tigers finish the season at 6-7 overall.
The Demon Deacons got off to a quick start against MU. The first touchdown of the game came in record-breaking fashion, as Wake Forest quarterback Sam Hartman threw his 108th career touchdown, which gave him the ACC record for most touchdowns by any quarterback.
Wake Forest was up 14-3, before Mizzou finally found end zone in the second quarter. Brady Cook broke through with a short touchdown pass to Peanut Houston, to cut the Deacs' lead to four points.
Going into the final minutes of the fourth quarter, it was still a close game. With under three minutes in the bowl game, Hartman hit Morin for their second touchdown connection of the night to take the 27-17 lead over head coach Eli Drinkwitz and company.
Cook finished the game 29-48 for 241 yards through the air and 38 on the ground. He also had one touchdown.
There is no word on Tiger injuries yet, however, they did stack up during the game. Offensive linemen Connor Wood and Connor Tollison were both taken out of the game, along with wide receiver Tauskie Dove.
It is Mizzou's fourth straight bowl loss and fourth season without a winning record.
