COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The City of Columbia announced on Wednesday that the antennas from a cellphone tower on top of the Guitar Building in Downtown Columbia have been anchored.

City inspector Harlan Hazlett wrote in a Dec. 16 inspection that the antennas on the top of the building's southwest corner at Walnut Street and Eighth Street were "swaying in the wind and must be secured immediately."

The city wrote in a tweet that the eastbound lane of Walnut and the sidewalk south of Walnut will likely remain closed through next week.

Hazeltt said the diagrams of the tower work shows that the tower must be anchored to the parapet wall, but ongoing issues with that wall may require new designs.

The building was evacuated on Dec. 15 after failing inspections, but were allowed back in by Friday. current closures in place for two more days. The building was inspected after bricks fell on top of the building on Dec. 14.
